The extensive efforts being made towards water conservation in the Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh have received significant national recognition. Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil, highlighting the district’s initiatives on his official social media account (X), praised rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and public participation-based water conservation work.
Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2025 (JSJB 3.0), over 55,000 water conservation structures have been geo-tagged in the district so far. These include various water conservation structures such as gully plugs, brushwood plugs, loose boulder check dams, boulder check dams, check dams, livelihood ponds, farm ponds, deepening and renovation of ponds, soak pits, recharge pits, community wells, and the Korea model developed to suit local geographical conditions.
These structures are being used to maximize rainwater harvesting, recharge groundwater, and ensure long-term water security. The active participation of the administration, as well as village panchayats, public representatives, self-help groups, and the local community, has transformed this campaign into a mass movement. The sharing of Balrampur’s efforts on the national stage by the Union Minister of Jal Shakti is not only a matter of pride for the district but also a testament to the fact that efforts toward water conservation, through community participation, innovation, and effective implementation, can become a role model for the
